Despite all the talk about RROD & even going through my second one, I ran across a couple of PS3 users yesterday in a couple of different instances.
In the first instance, I ran into the guy & asked if he was getting ready for the new Final Fantasy. A couple of years ago he didn't have a console. So he told me that his PS3 had broken & right before the warranty ran out, apparently he bought the PS3 last December. So I asked about the process & the return process was remarkably similar to the Xbox 360. Only, there was one small catch. The first time he sent it to Sorny, they returned it to him & stated they had fixed the problem. He plugged it in & it still didn't work. So he had to send it back & they made him pay for shipping the second time. So far, he said it had been about a month since he had played anything on his PS3. I chuckled to myself & then told him that when my Xbox 'retired', I had a working Xbox sent to me within 2 weeks.
I knew this guy was a JRPG freak, so I thought I'd get a larf by stinging him with the news. I asked if he had heard of Last Remnant (that was recently on sale for $18 on Amazon) & if he was going to get that for the PS3. And he looked at me & said, "It's not available on the PS3. I wish it was!". I acted as if I didn't know, showing surprise. "I should have bought a 360", he continued. And I then nodded my head in agreement. I then casually mentioned how I had heard Final Fantasy was on the Xbox & that a ton of JRPGs were announced as exclusive on the 360 back in August..(who knew?). Overall, he looked pretty rankled about his purchasing decision. I brought up some info about other games, like Left 4 Dead, & how many games weren't moved to the PS3 & that multiplat games were usually ports of inferior quality. What's more, he told me that he had barely played his PS3, only played around 2 games & watched a few movies & still his PS3 had broke. So we'll see if I can get this disenfranchised cow to move over to the Dark Side...moohoohuahahahah.
In the second instance, I spoke to this hermit. He was getting his adopted son a PS3. I thought this was funny after he was already complaining about the high cost of the Sorny console. Plus, he'll never play it! He plays WOW all the time. I then mentioned to him how the 360 console was outselling the PS3 by 3 to 1 & that most American game developers were building their games for the PC/360 & then, if it was decided a PS3 version would be created, it would have to be ported to the PS3, giving an inferior quality! In sum, I basically did everything but call the guy an idiot directly to his face. He just kind of grinned & didn't think much of his waste of money. I think he just wanted the adoptee out of his hair to free up warcraft.
Then HE was trying to convert me to play WOW! He started going on & on about how much fun it is to go fishing & trade in the markets...I had to tell him that it didn't sound like much of a game to me. I prefer to be in the center of the action rather than a cog in the machine. Fortunately, work happened, & he had to go away. I'm interested to find out if/when the Hermit's PS3 breaks, if it will fall out of warranty. I love being the one to say, "I told you so.".
